To anyone who plays woodwind and piano.....do you find the sightreading on piano a lot more difficult? Also any tips for what to do in the thirty seconds you get in the exams?

I don't play piano but i'll give you a tip that my band teacher gave me. Before you start to play read the whole sheet over and make sure you are aware of key signatures and accidentals.

I play both piano and woodwinds, and I think sight reading piano is the same for woodwinds, I see no difference when I am sight reading for both.

skim over really quick, dont bother going over the pitches/ fingerings for 8th notes, quater notes and stuff, you can probably handle them, concentrate on any trills, turns, dynamics, ect.

I actually do find it a bit more difficult...at least for me, i think it's because when I'm playing saxophone, there is only one possible note I could be playing at any one instance in time, so that makes things easier then possibly playing 6 notes at the same time, and different rhythms all over the piano.

As for tips for exams, I don't have any for piano, but for a woodwind, I always finger it through once quickly, while thinking the melody in my head. Hope I helped!

In these kinds of exams, they don't really expect you to play it perfectly, but really, as long as you follow what the others have said, and use your knowledge to the best of your ability, it should be fine. Also, try not to over-examine what you are doing, or else you won't be able to read ahead, in the music.
