If you had music written for the piano in the key of C and u wanted to transpose it so you can play it on and alto sax, what key would the music be in now and how many steps up/down would you have to move each note? Thanks.

I think It would be in the key of A? And you move it 5 steps up. Correct me if I am wrong because I am not a sax player, but i think this is right.

You write the music in the key of A and transpose each note 9 semitones higher than you want it to sound. So you write middle C as the A above middle C.

If the music is for yourself only, you dont need to transpose because it will sound fine on your own. However, if your playing with someone else, you need to.
