i'm playing on a new cane this time around.
the tonal quality of the middle c is different from any other note in the scale but when i apply a different lip pressure or take less reed, it improves. Not to mention the middle c is especially sharp at most times. What should i do to the reed?

This sort of goes with your question, but its a problem of my own: Whenever I play A right above the staff I have a hard time getting it out clear, but its only that one note, and i dont think its the reed because it happenes on all reeds ive played except for about two. What should I do?

Well there will always be some timbre difference between middle C and other notes on the oboe, it's just a question of <i>how much</i> is acceptable.
If you're saying that taking in less reed improves the tone AND that the middle C tends to be sharp, then that leads me to suspect that you're probably playing with too much reed in your mouth in that range, possibly overall.
Often times I see players shy away from the middle C just because it does indeed sound different and feels different in the horn. They will consequently back off on the air pressure behind middle C; however, this will only make the problem worse. Besides not playing with too much of the reed in you mouth, good strong air support is also required to more closely match the timbre of the middle C with all the other notes on the instrument. So take a little more reed out of your mouth and blow through the notes, including especially middle C.
As far as the reed is concerned, I don't know what to tell you since I can only offer help with American scrape reeds. If I were talking about American reeds I would possibly tell you to try thinning the sides and the extreme corners of the tip or possibly taking a little more out of the windows.

yes torus i would love to hear a bit out of that since a few weeks ago i had similar problems with an american scraped too! just that i do not have the proper tools to scrape the reeds, can you suggest something in and out of the ordinary to do my work? knives etc. plus of course the methods of using them

Just to clarify...is the middle C you guys are talking about C4 (piano middle C) or the oboe's 2nd C...C5?

Yeah that's the oboe's version of middle C I guess... for most people. Besides the symptoms he describes are much more characteristic of that C, so I just assumed.
