 tremolos?

Under the flute fingerings section, I see a section called Tremolos of Thirds. I'm just beginning the flute, and I have no idea what that is. What are those lines, and what is a tremolo? Can someone please explain it to me? Thanks

A trill or tremolo is two notes alternated very rapidly. Trills are normally done on two notes that are side by side, such as B and C, so you play CBCBCBCBCBCBCBCBC. A tremolo of a third is where the two notes are a third apart, such as C and E, or D and F.

If the fingering for the two notes is very different, it is difficult or impossible to play using the normal fingering, so tables of special fingerings are compiled, such as this one.

Tremolos are often not faster than trills. Depending on the notation, the speed is often specified. For example if the tremolo is notated as two half notes joined by two bars (or flags as they may also be called), then they are to be played as 16th notes. If one bar, eigth notes. If three bars, 32nd notes.
