I was wondering how to transpose guitar chords into music I can play on my alto saxophone. How in the world do I go about doing this?

Guitar chords are not single notes, they are a number of notes played at the same time. You won't be able to play these on your saxophone, unless you have three saxophone players.

Guitar music is written in concert pitch. Alto saxophone music is written transposed up nine semitones. So if you see a C in the guitar music, you should play it 9 semitones higher, which is an A. If you see an Eb, play it 9 semitones higher, which is a C.

Guitar chord just say The name of the chord and either if its major or minor.

A capitalized letter means its MAjor and a lower case letter means Minor.

Ex: Ab=Ab major scale
d =d minor scale

When you see this just know the notes in the scale and improvise the melody.

To improvise just play whatever notes in the alotted note value but the notes in that scle only unless it says something like the following.

C b7=this mean to play in C major but lower the seventh, in this case you would have to play a Bb instead of a B natural.

Gnomon is right. Ihe Guitar is in the key of C and the sax is in E flat so you have to transpose from a C instroment to an E flat instroment.

Ex.) Guitar-G chord

saxophone-B chord

I hope thats right
Ask Gnoman he seems to know what he/she? is doing
