I need some information about the bass clarinet.
I, as of now, know almost every note on a basic Bb clarinet. Can you tell me if bass clarinets have the same fingerings as the regular clarinet? Minus the extra E flat key. Are there any other differences I should know about(except size and the obvious things like the mouthpeice) My BD wants me to pick it for next year because we will be losing many low brasses and need more low instrument parts to be covered. wow you know almost every note? i forget most upper altissimo notes. yes all clarinets are made with the same fingering pattern, as like the saxes. only the low keys are unique to the alto and lower. so C is the same on both clarinets, just everything sounds an octave lower. hope this helps.

Oh .. ok I get it now. I thought that to play lower you'd have to make different note patterns. :-D Whoo, that helps me alot .. so maybe I will switch off to the bass.
Yeah, when I said I knew almost every note .. i didn't literally mean every note .. i pretty much know all the basics.

Yes, the basic fingering patterns are the same. All Bass clarinets have the low Eb, and some go right down to low C, but the keys to do these low notes are not standard - they differ from one make to another of bass clarinet.
One difference between the bass and the normal Bb is the altissimo notes. Instead of lifting the first finger of the left hand for altissimo notes C# up to A, you uncover a little hole on the pad. This allows the note to form easier. A similar effect can be achieved on the Bb soprano by sliding the Left index finger off the hole rather than lifting it.

The fingerings are the same for the clarinet and bass clarinet. I should know. I play this instrument. I just started this year. It is just like playing the clarinet, but you need a little more energy.
