the clarinet v-12 reeds are giving me trouble.
i bought a box of 3 1/2 of the v-12 they are playable but all suck to comparison to the traditional ones.
could it because i use a m13 vandoren mouthpiece and they need a mouthpiece with a biger opening?

You may need a different strength in the V-12s compared to the standard. Or it could be that the thick blank (compared to the standards) just doesn't suit your embouchure.

V-12's rule! if i'm rememebring this correct, the m-13 is a chamber music mouthpiece, small and closed. the reeds are designed for long open ones. it's more for a good player with a jazz type m/p. it's thicker on the bottom of the face, so if you have a closed m/p it's harder to vibrate. but they are great reeds, to me they're better then the blue box. they give a darker sound, not so bright as the blue box. to answer your question, yes they'll need a bigger opening, because they have a thicker bottom of the reed.

aah thnx guys!
will a b45 work or a 5jb be better?
traditional 3 1/2 give me a rich round sound on the M13

my b-45 works great, and i've never used a 5jb before, but i'd assume that it'll work a little better.

It's all preference. i'd say the v-12's are harder because of the differences between the v-12's and the blue box. but it's a matter of sound not challenge(well i guess it would be both). which ever gives you the best sound, thats what you should play.
