 Flute question...
Author: Carolyn

I started learning flute this past week, and this is a question that has been bugging me recently...I know there are some fingerings for notes that are different on flute than are on saxophone...but if, for some reason, I do the sax fingering on the flute, and it comes out on the same note as it would if i had fingered the 'correct' flute fingering, would it be okay to use that sax fingering? Or, would it only mess me up when i learn notes in the higher and lower ranges of the flute?

It will mess you up. The flute is designed to make the sounds with a specific finguring and you will have horible intonation issues and tone issues if you do not use the correct flute finguring. And the higher and lower you go the fingurings will get so different it will not be even the same notes.

I am the total opposite of you ... i play the flute and i am learning sax... To ur question yes it will mess you up... I use flute fingerings on sax ( naughty me) for example Bb and F# ... but that is just me ... I am re-training myself to play the "correct notes" mostly because my techer tells me too
