I'm not really sure what you should say, but I think I know another instrument he can play: the recorder. The recorder is pretty easy to play. I think your little brother will probably be able to play it. It's a good first instrament. -Jessica

The recorder is actually not as simple as it looks for a three-year old. Firstly, the finger holes have to be completely covered, and there are quite a lot of them. The breath control required to produce a gentle continuous stream of air is probably beyond the abilities of most three year olds.

If he really must play a wind instrument, get him a kazoo. This is an instrument that you sing into and it produces a musical buzzing sound in the same pitch. It will be good practise for his singing later on. A xylophone or glockenspiel is a good instrument if he wants to make some tunes. My daughters tried playing recorder at the age of 4, but they really weren't able to manage it until they were about six.

I was just guessing. It was a "positive" suggestion. Yours is better. And plus, I don't play very well with any instrument, and I'm not an expert.

i would agree with getting him a recorder, but they also make "J" headjoints for the flute so little kids can reach the notes. (the head joints looks like a J and curves over so the mouth piece is closer to the child and his fingers can reach the keys!)
HOPE THIS HELPS!

I think the recorder is a good choice for kids. I play the really REALLY cheap plastic yamaha recorder when I'm still in primary school and it really helps a lot(the fingerings) when I started to play the sax in high school. :) Since the recorder is very cheap, you don't have to worry about him smashing the recorder as you can simply get another one for him.

umm...maybe a piccolo? it's a whole lot smaller....yet it does have a very SHRILL tone (our band director will only let one piccolo play at a time, 2 of them can't play at once, or one gets shot)
