How do we get his clarinet apart?!
Author: Chris

Hi, What is the secret to getting a clarinet to come apart, and go back together with ease? Lots of wax, or a little? My 10 yr old son can't do it himself, and I've really got to muscle it. It's brand new and not the least bit worn in.
Thanks in advance!

thats the problem. with some new clarinets, the cork is very tight and hasn't had a chance to soften up. i suggest to put on a little cork grease and make sure when you take the joints apart you are turning it when you pull and you aren't grabbing any of the keys, or else you could bend or break them.

yeah, later on the cork should loosen up....my clarinet was like that and now i can't remember the last time i needed cork grease. *****Don't use tooo much cork grease because the grease will get in the pads and the small holes if it leaks!******

If it's that tight, go back to the shop where you bought it and have them sand down the cork slightly. A little tight is ok but not what you are describing.

Don't try to sand it yourself as you might get it lopsided.
