when writing music, you know the...'stem' of the note (the line coming from the dot vertically)... how do you know where it stops? like for example the high D onwards (e, f, g, a...etc) the line stops at the D line on the staff. and for like low F or something, the line goes up until the middle B line on the staff. is there a rule for how long it is? sheesh i hope someone understands what i'm trying to ask.

i think it's something like 3.5 lines, ending in a space, but not if you're putting two parts on the same staff.(and the parts stem in opposite directions)
I could be wrong though...

hiii!. actually, i'm interested with music especially in composition. but i don't know how to arrange the melody.. until now, i've wrote four melodies, but still not arrange them to be a song.. Hope u'll help me.. Thanks!
