Did you forget a zero or two? You won't find anything "decent" in the range of 250-700. You could find some old beat up thing maybe. No guarantees. New saxophones, (and by decent I take it you mean usable in school band, with a nice tone) will start at about 1000$ and work their way up. Used, about 800, and up still. If you are looking to upgrade to an intermediate level saxophone, you will probably have to spend from 1500$ up used, and $2200 up new. If you pay cheap you get cheap, if you pay good, you get good. Depending of course on how old, and in what condition, but that's the general rule. (provided you buy it from a licenced professional music store.)

I am primarily a bari player now, but i started on alto in elementary school. I got my alto 5 years ago, it's a student model conn 21M. Now that i am goin for the freelancing, im gonna need to buy a professional horn, and of course get rid of my old one. like all my horns though, i took GREAT care of my alto, not one dent in it and no missing laquer. Not even a big scratch or missing key. It was only used in concert band in 6th-9th grade, and home practicing, no marching band or anything. It was just repadded and recorked, and so im looking to recover those funds as well by asking for $900 for the horn. I bought it for $1300 and it still plays like new, so I think this is very reasonable. There is no bad note on the horn...Being a Bari player, i am fluent from the low-Bb to Altissimo Bb, and i am exceptionally satisfied with how clear and heavy the low Bb, B and C# come out. The sax comes with the original mouthpiece. I think this is a great deal, considering the price of horns nowadays. Lemme know.
