Not exactly a woodwind question but I was wondering for some time what is the differences between symphony orchestra and philharmonic orchestra? Are there other types of orchestra too? O_o Thanks!

All orchestras are usually "symphonies" some use the title "philharmonic" or "pops" and such.

Thanks! So is there any reason why they name their orchestras like that?
I mean....for example: Why Boston Pops? Do they play pop songs or something....?

Yes actually there is a difference between pops orchestras and your everyday run-of-the-mill symphony orchestra for the exact reason you mentioned. However few things in the music world are absolute; pops orchestras don't always just play popular works, and symphony orchestras sometimes play pops.

well according to my worn out brain i think philharmonic orchestras are larger comprising of more players. As Torus said....they don't necessarily play pop for pop orchestras.
