Which is better, the Flute or the Alto Flute?

Ah you can't compare them, both of them are still flutes...if you want to compare the brands then maybe we could give some info. If you're in a flute choir then I guess it will be fun playing the alto flute.

Sorry ignore my previous post. :P To me, this is just like asking 'Which is better, piccolo or tuba?' Just see for yourself what is the differences between these 2 instruments. The C flute can play higher notes, but does that make the alto flute look bad? The alto can play lower notes, but it doesn't mean you should go bashing the C flute like a metal pancake for its inability to play lower notes.

Its just the matter of your personal taste, some people just prefer the C flute, while some others prefer the alto flute. Of course, if you ask me which is more popular, I would say its the C flute.
