I'm trying to learn soprano sax, but I'm really a clarinetist. I can't figure out the low octave- what notes correspond with what fingerings? it's quite the same as a clarinet...is it?

It's not the same fingering in the lowest octave. Did you compare the fingering charts on http://www.sneezy.org/wfg/ ?
Basically, the sax overblows an octave, so "similar" fingerings can be used for the "same" notes in different octaves. Not so with the clarinet, particulaly with respect to the lowest octave.

Sax fingerings look like flute's. But it is very easy to remember I assure.

oh man, Saxohone can't hold a candle to the hard technique of a clarinet. Ok. The Middle register(middle c to high c) is almost exactly the same wtih the exception that the two C's are played with the middle finger, and the notes don't change with the change in octaves. It only goes to low b flat below C.
