 Mini sax

For anyone interested out there in sax land, I recently bought an instrument called a Xaphoon "The Pocket Sax" from a street vendor in Paris. It is the size of small recorder equipped with a 2 1/2 sax reed and sounds quite neat too. Not too much lip pressure required and a scale from C below the stave to something approching upper C (although this is a bit too squeaky for me so I'll stay with 1 octave and 1/2). For further info www.xaphoon.com
For someone who does not intend to invest yet in a sax as I'm just learning the Bb clarinet, it allows hours of endless fun.

As far as I could make out, the fingering system is quite different from either sax or clarinet, so you'll have to do some relearning.

You're right it is much closer to a recorder type fingering and the pressure required on the reed needs to be varied depending on if you play lower or upper register but at least it gives good opportunites for bending the notes in blues or jazzy type melodies.
