Sure if you want to stop playing the trombone/and or want to concentrate playing sax well.

I have heard a lot of different opinions about playing brass and woodwind instruments, but as a general rule, it is oft said that a brass player should not learn a woodwind instrument and carry on with playing a brass instrument and vice versa. Now some people's argument to that is "Well so-and-so does it and they play OK" sure, if you just want to play "OK" or for fun, but one or the other instruments will suffer as a consequence - it is like trying to bend and flex your arm at the same time, the muscles only go one way or the other at one time.

In terms of reading music etc, that depends in which clef you learned trombone in, or if you play piano. Basically, if you read treble clef, then there is no problem there.

Saxophone is a fun and rewarding instrument to play, and like the trombone, goes well with classical or jazz styles of music. The embouchure is quite different, but it would not be hard to accomodate being that you play a wind instrument already.

All the other production tecniques such as posture and breath control are the same/very similar. And if you have learned diaphragm-vibrato, this is the same too. (Although I think lip-vibrato suits as saxophone much better!)

Oops you said about other woodwind instruments.

Saxophone to clarinet is harder than clarinet to saxophone, as the lower register on the clarinet has different fingering to the upper register which is very similar to the saxophone. Clarinet also has a different embouchure - tighter and the bottom lip is slightly different.

Clarinet to flute is OK, Saxophone to flute is better, but your breath control must be good. Again, there are sometimes embouchure problems, which if you want to play the flute well, clarinet and flute are better than saxophone and flute. I teach Clarinet, Saxophone and Flute, but I only teach flute because I have to. My flute embouchure often suffers at the hands of my saxophone playing!

Clarinet and bassoon go well. Saxophone is not so good because the embouchure is very relaxed, and a bassoon embouchure requires much more control. Flute and bassoon is even worse for an inexperienced player, who will have many intonation problems. I learned some bassoon once, I found getting the notes and intonation was relatively easy - the basic fingerings are similar to clarinet - but there were so many places to put your thumb, I could not imagine how anybody could play fast!

If you use the clarinet as a second instrument, (preferably first) and learn it well, other woodwind instruments should not prove too much of a problem. Clarinet and oboe work well, although you should probably not try to learn too many instruments! Remember the more woodwind you play, the less brass you will be able to play well (preferably none).

If you want to play multiple woodwind instruments, make sure you have a good (and correct) embouchure and breathing technique for each one and can alter your embouchure to fit the instrument you play. Expect tired lips!

I don't think there is anything else
