 alto sax octave key

On my alto sax (a yamaha)i find that my middle register D won't come out if the octave is pressed right down, and the same for E, F and G, although it has to be fully pressed down for above that. is this normal on all sax's, or is the octave mechanism broken?

The reason for this is that there are two octave pads controlled by the one key. If you press the octave key too hard, they both open. It's certainly the case on my sax too. I don't think you're supposed to press the key that hard. But I'll leave it to others to say whether the sax can be adjusted so that this doesn't matter.

I'm having sort of a similar problem. I can play the middle D but it's stuffy. In fact almost all notes using the octave key is stuffy. Could that be a sign of leak somewhere?
