Tounging (sorry if it's spelt wrong!)

Hi, I've been playing the clarinet for about 7 years and the sax for 2 years. I've never really noticed that I tongue wierdly before now but i just realised it the other day because I get a kind of airy sound before a note when I toungue it, especially on the high notes. When I toungue, I put the tip of my tongue behind my bottom teeth and kind of arch the middle of my tongue to touch the reed. I know it will sound really wierd to some people, but to me it's normal. I've tried to tongue touching the reed with the tip of my tongue instead but, although I get a cleaner sound, I find it really hard work. I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether I need to work on changing this and, if so, any tips on how to adjust it. Thanks a lot.

From my perspective, I play with my tounge level, meaning that I don't bring my toungue up from my bottom teeth. So just aim for between your teeth, that should get rid of the airy sound and that shouldn;t give you too much trouble.

what your doing is anchor tonguing. its evil! say shoe .. you feel your tongue? how it kind of sits on your teeth? well when you tongue it has to feel like that. now, bite your tongue and touch the tip of it with your finger. that should be the part of your tongue hitting the reed. now only move the tip of your tongue, if your whole tongue is moving your working it too much. if you anchor tongue you will have a "duh duh duh" sound which is no good. anchor tongueing should definitely be something you wok on breaking.
