what are the advantages and disadvantages of both the metel and leather ligatures

well people choose metal ligatures for vibrancy and a brighter tone. Leather or fabric ligatures tend to produce a darker , warmer tone.

metal bends, I have a cloth ligature, it is great. The metal doesnt lay the reed out "comfortably" I guess you can say. I switched from metal to cloth, and I was shocked. It changes your tone, and it is better for the reed.

I was playing an Eb soprano clarinet for a while with a concert band and My order hadn't come in for my new ligature yet (the joys of living in an isolated place) and I actually ended up using dental floss and I got a fantastic sound so I'd say the metal ligatures aren't nearly as good
