Hello, i bought a tenor saxophone from a friend but i dunno what type is it, C or Eb,or if there are any. I used to play flute by myself. I can make a sound but i think i need a softer reed, what do you suggest. And can you please send a basic fingering chart please.I dont understand the one in here. And one more quest, it makes a very loud sound and my neighbours are not happy with it.I put my t-shirt in it :)) but still too loud i cant practice. Is there any other way?, I know i sound like an idiot, please help,
appreciated, e-mail decisions_25@yahoo.com

I would be interested to know if there is a "silencer" for the sax was well. I play the alto and my neighbors are not very pleased either - though we worked out an "arrangement"

I know that you can get a "silencer" for the trumpet, but I have yet to see anything for the saxophone

The best and fastest way to solve these problems is to find a good, patient teacher. You can't learn overnight.

A sliencer for the saxophone would be impossible. see, with a brass instrument, the air is Always coming out the bell of the horn. that is why mutes will work for a brass insturment. the length of the horn is dictated by the valves. but for a woodwind, it is impossible. see, the air is not always coming out of the bell. actually, the air is rarely coming out of the bell. it only comes out of the bell when you are playing a very low B or Bb. on all the other notes, the air escapes through the holes that are not closed. thus, a mute would be impossble. you can try this by having someone stick their arm in the bell and then try to play various notes. the only notes that will not play are the very lowest ones.

and, plus, tenOr only comes in C and Bb. No such thing as an Eb tenor. there is an Eb alto and Eb baritone (my instrument, the coolest in the world!!), but no Eb tenor. Bb tenor is common, and C Tenor (C melody) is rare.

Barisaxboy: Sticking stuff in the bell can be useful. My old Zephyr bari doesn't have a low a, but I've found if I lift my foot up and stick it in the bell when playing Bb and really lip it down I can get the low A. Takes a little work to use your foot for quick passages.
