 oboe or flute
Author: claudio

I currently play the saxophone but i want to double up on an instrument. But at the moment it seems so hard to decide between the flute and oboe. First what would be the most beneficial to my saxophone playing. I really want to play both but the oboe a bit more but i'm afraid it might be too hard to start at 16. Also there's the question of availability of oboes in melbourne i don't really know where to get them. Then there the flute i still like the sound (oboe more) but it's easier to obtain lessons with and also i can rent one from my school. WHICH ONE SHOULD I CHOOSE!!!!!!!

oboe, go oboe! mind you i'm byast! if you want to play in a band or orchestra, the oboe is an easier instrument to get into with, as there are less of them therefore the standard of entry isn't so high. and as you already know about reeds and stuff like that it is an easier intrument to pick up. still up to you though!

Well, it would be most beneficial to your saxaphone playing if you didn't play either of those other instruments but instead focused on.....your saxaphone playing.

It seems like from your post what you're saying is that you would really rather play the oboe and that you like its sound more, but your scared trying to pick it up might not be practical. I don't think you being 16 would really have much to do with it honestly. What you need to do is ask yourself how much more you like the oboe, and then determine whether or not that outweighs the relative difficulty you will experience in trying to procure one and learn to play it. Oboe is not that much harder to learn than flute I would imagine, however I can't play the flute myself, so perhaps I'm not the best judge of what is easier.

Go ahead and play the oboe. The fingerings on the sax and oboe are similar but the embouchures are a world apart. Keep practicing on both mouthpieces in order to maintain a competitive edge on both instruments.

Good luck

i think you sould choose the flute.i play the bari and the flute ,piano, guitar , the flute is prob. the best one
and the fingerings are almost the same.so the flute is the best in your case
