 c melody sax

My father bought me a silver Baescher c-melody sax when I was in high school (in '81) at an antique store for $50. I tried playing (as I play the flute) but there were SO many keys! I am getting inspired to try again and found this site. Would I use the same fingerings as for the Alto Sax? Oh, and do you know anything about this type of sax - did we get our money worth?? Thanks!

It will finger just like any other saxaphone, but the notes that come out will be concert pitches, not like Bb or Eb saxes. as for the difficulty, in my experience a saxaphone is just about the easiest woodwind to master some basic playing ability of.

Suz,

The C melody can be a great instrument, but there are several things to keep in mind. First of all, having the right mouthpiece is critical for playing in tune. i have found that an older Martin tenor piece works well on my Conn (as does a buescher C piece). Also, the fingerings are the same as for alto, EXCEPT that these are all vintage horns, and have older key mechanisms such as G# trill key, al Eb tone hole, plus the low b, Bb and C# will NOT close the G# key (which takes some getting used to)
