Hi,
My name is Antonio and I play a variety of different instruments. (If I named all of the instruments that I play, you wouldn't belive me) I am in diere need of knowing and finding out about the clarinet not so much of that but only of the notes and fingerings. I need help on the note fingerings. I know most of the notes already, but need some help with my fingerings. So if there was any kind of way that you could help me out here, I personally would greatly appreciate it! God Bless You and Thank You!

- Antonio

To All,
The clarinet is a wonderful instrument with a range capable of over four octaves (when you get up there you can get to a point where it becomes inaudable). The only problem is when get into that region of the instrument it loses a lot of the syrupiness is the sound. I suggest for extended fingers that you find a fingering chart in your local music shop (there are about $4.00 australian) or look in the back method book such as Frederick Thurston's "Comprehensive Method For The Clarinet"(a very fine text!!) or search on this site which has very impressive chart.

Best wishes in music

Nick :)

by middle g I assume you mean with your left three fingers, thumb and octave key down.
it's simple. you do the same as you would an octave lower on the chromatic scale. G# you place your left pinky on the key you would use for low C#, for A, you leave your first two fingers and thumb on your left hand and octave key down, etc, until you reach what would be F, with just your thumb down, only with the octave key also down.
The trick is to blow, and fill the insturment.

All,

I play multiple instruments, Piano, Organ, Saxophone, Clarinet, French Horn, Cornet, etc. I play clarinet in Band, and I have recently begun taking lessons after teaching myself for years. I was wondering today, what high G is, the one that is for ledger-lines above the staff. My Band instructor doesn't even know.
God Bless,
Steff

Hi!
I play a soprano clarinet, I'm assuming this is the kind of clarinet you are askign about. To play a high G, it is the same as playing a middle D, but you have the back pedal pushed down.

On the back of a clarinet, at the top, there is a hole to put your thumb, and a pedal, the pedal allows for notes higher then High C. You play a high C like you would play a low F but you hold down this pedal. From there you can work your way up the clarinet by removing fingers from their holes in order and counting the notes as you go. Using this technique in different positions (I.E. figure out what a middle F is by positioning your fingers in a middle G and counting down one note), you can figure out what ANY key on the clarinet is until you hit super C (one octave higher then High C)
