What do you mean by "better"? Easier? Better-sounding? All of this depends. But, to quote a good friend of mine: "All instruments in the band and orchestra are equal, like building a house: You can't have a house without a foundation, without walls, and without a roof. Whether you would rather have red or green shutters is up to you." Yes, I would say the alto sax is easier, but I would also say that the clarinet sounds a little better and is more versatile.

Tell him that clarinet players don't (rarely) get paying gigs. Har-dee-har-har

Jonelle -
Picture yourself as an accomplished alto saxophonist, getting a standing ovation from your audience. Share that dream with your dad. He needs reminding that you need to go for your dream...not his.
I know a little bit about this issue. I'm the father of a young girl who I love dearly. Still, I can't help but "push" her toward some kind of music (and all the other stuff I like to do). I always have to remind myself that she needs to decide for herself, once I help show the options.
