Hi all!I'm from Italy, I've been playing sax for over 1 year now, starting with soprano and then adding tenor (borrowing it from my brother,to stop it from collecting dust:)). About 3 months ago I decided I wanted to try another instrument, and I rented a Bb soprano clarinet. I like playing it, and it even helped me indirectly to improve my soprano sax playing, but I'm realizing it's too difficult for me, since I'm not able to spend enough practice time: the major difficulty for me is avoiding the terrible squeaks that always seem to come out unexpectedly!In short, I wanted to ask if bass clarinet is less critical on this aspect and if it's more similar to sax as far as embouchure/breathing/back-pressure are concerned (I find that sop. clarinet needs rather more pressure than even the soprano sax!).Bass clar. is an instrument I always liked, especially its low notes.

all clarinets have the same fingerings as any clarinet. its no where the same as soprano sax. you have to loosen your jaw and the notes on bass clar. are almost as hard with usually more squeeks. bass clar. usually has really boring parts but, if your like me and like the low rumble that you get from it, you could master it. you should start eith soprano clar. first then after you have learned this then switch to bass.

well, firstly, Bass Clarinet's look more like a sax...very stylie, with the curved bell thing going on. Also, in terms of playing they are easier than a soprano clarinet, you shouldn't get as many squeaks because, unlike a soprano, you don't use your fingers to cover the holes...with a bass there are pads, like a sax, which cover them for you, which makes the playing easier.
