Here's one tip that may help you....KNOW YOUR SCALES...(as many as you can!!)....eventually ideas will come easier knowing the scale patterns.

James Abersold has has 100's of play along jazz improv methods on cd. They are great for learning improv. Scale knowledge is also a premium. Not just the majors but also minors and modal scales as well. and to me the most important thing is to listen to good jazz musicians...imulate their style and sounds...and after all that...just keep playing....as you grow musically your improvisational skills will develop.
