Soprano sax G and G# - New Player
Author: Greg

I just got a straight Barrington soprano with a B5 mouthpeice. I am using #2 reed because it has been almost 20 years since I picked up a tenor oe alto. I am getting good tone from the lower end, but the G sounds like a G#(so much so that I can't even tell if the G# is working). I get a closer sound by tightening my lip, but the other notes are so sweet and easy (even below the G) that I wonder what it could be. I have looked at the pad, and it seems fine. If this is something I will ned to work through, then fine....but I hate to waste time trying if I need to get it checked professionally. Thanks, Greg

Get the instrument checked. They simply should NOT sound so much alike that you can't tell which one you are playing.
