 Clarinet issues...

ok well this is almost embarrassing...i play clarinet(duh) but ever since i started playing i had an issue with playing a Eb... it has nothing to do with actually playing it but reaching the key...when i was 5 i slamed my right pinkie in a door and sliced of the tip...and its not even that much missing....but over the years i have adjusted my right hand continually to reach that key sometimes moving my entire han dover about half an inch.. i dont have a problem reaching any other key though... when i have my hand on there "right" the nail of my pinkie can barely push the key down.....but last year i found out that there was a clarinet with and alternant fingering for Eb.. does any one have any idea how much i cost to get one or any suggestions for this at all?

Before you invest in a another instrument, see if your current one can be modified. A repair technician may be able to adjust the key to suit you.

heyy... i slammed the piano keybaord cover on my friend's thumb and it was.. well.. a little squashed.. when you say you play the clarinet, does it mean you have problems reaching that key for ALL instruments? you could try switching to the E-flat clarinet instead coz its smaller and its keys are easier to reach...

I play both the Bb and Eb soprano clarinets in three different band styles and I enjoy them both. To answer
your question,I had my Bb fitted with the extra Eb key
for the left finger and I quite often use it, even more
so than the regular fingering with the right hand. It did
however take a little while and some practice to get use to
using it, and now that I'm at a comfort level with it, when I read certain passages that can be fingered easier with it I can use it(left hand) with confidence and fluidity. Oh by the way clarinets were being fitted with
the extra about 7 or so years ago at a price of $150.00
that may be higher now. Yamaha and Buffet both of which I play have the upgrade available.
