Hi folks:
I notice that when I play the C1 note on my flute, it sounds like a C2 note. But when I play from E1 to D1 to C1, then it sounds like a C1 note. Is that normal?

Low notes on the flute, especially C, are hard to control. It will tend to try to jump to the next octave until you gain more experience and control.
An exercise to learn that control is to play a descending scale down to the note so that you can feel what is required to play the note in the desired octave.

I concur.
Try this: When attacking the note (especially a jump down to it), finger the note but leave up your left hand ring finger, and at the same time you tongue the note, "pop" it down. Every now and then, I'll come across that- and after awhile, you probably won't need to pop it anymore. But- just give it a try, see if it works...
