Hi
I used to play recorder and piano.. I loved the them both but need a instrument i can take around with me recorder is out cos I want a deeper tone like the clarinet..is it an easy transition to go from recorder to clarinet? I wanna just teach myself out of books is it like the recorder at all?

hmm...all i know is that if you blow into a clarinet like a recorder, no sound will come out; if you blow into a recorder like a clarinet, it will produce a terrifying squeak!! lol

Many of the finguerings should be easy, especially if you know both F and C recorder finguerings (untransposed music). The lower register on the clarinet is similar to reading music for an F recorder (alto or bass) and the upper register is similar to a C recorder (soprano or tenor). Remember to take your time, though. It takes practice to be able to play any unfamiliar instrument well, no matter how similar it is to what you already know.

I agree with the beef jerky guy-it's alot different, but some fingerings are the same. that's how I came to play clarinet
