i have to say i think alto is the best to start out on, and then you can just work your way up to tennor

Bari beats both, but you probably wouldnt want to start on that (although I did)

u know bass beats the alto tenor bari. well start out on alto because of size and air volume. u need extreme air power for bari and bass. i started on bari and went to bass and they were all hard but you can do it
just start on the alto then move up
both are easier to play but if u r looking for a nice small instrument the alto is best although the tenor goes lower. have fun playing!!

I would have to agree on tenor...I think alto to be a bit squeeky, but if you are playing in a band...go alto cause you will get better parts...more melody.

I must also add that I have a soft spot for soprano as well, but that is just my humble opinion.
