I'm not a pro, but I can tell you that there are some BASS clarinets that can go past low E. In fact, most intermediate and professional model bass clarinets go at least to Eb and some even go as low as C. I have yet to see a standard Bb clarinet go lower than E though.

The standard Bb clarinet stops at low E. Some models have a low Eb key and go as far as low Eb. One such is the Full Boehm, which has a few extra features.
The standard A clarinet goes to low E. Some models go to low Eb. An A clarinet which can go to low C is called a Basset Clarinet. It is the one for which Mozart's Clarinet Concerto and Clarinet Quintet were written.
The Alto clarinet normally goes to low Eb.
The Basset horn (a clarinet in F) normally goes to low C.
Bass clarinets are divided: cheaper ones go to low Eb; more expensive ones to low C.

So do they make contra-altos and contra-basses that go lower than Eb?

Hey!!!
You can get standard clarinets with an added key on, which makes it go to low Eb. You would need a much larger clarinet to go past low e, such as a bass or an alto, My bass clarinet goes down to low C. I hope this helps!!
