 B and F# Scales
Author: Lily

I'm having lots of trouble getting these scales down. (I'm a third year flute player.) Is there an easy way to master these two besides monotonous practice? All of the other scales including C# seemed to come easily enough. I can even play an Eb minor scale and an Ab minor scale with success. So why are these so difficult? (I play a low C-foot, so I can't play the lower B octave.)

I think these scales are not "technically" difficult, but they "feel" difficult: the reason is the same by wich the "Hymne to joy" is not the same, if played in E instead of Eb! Every scale has its "colour", and maybe those of B and F# are not "in tune with you"! And by the way, the pieces in these two tonality are the most difficult and the most rare: you are not the only one who has problems with them!

Sorry - it's just one of those things you have to practice endlessly! Start slowly playing the correct notes, then slowly build up the speed.
