 Old Clarinet

I have a Bb Clarinet which I think was imported into the
UK in the 1840 period, the name on the instrument is a
J.Wallis 135 Euston Road London who I believe was a musical instrument importer.
Does anyone know anything about antique instruments of this type or has any suggestions.
Regards
John

Try posting this question on the clarinet bulletin board at

http://www.sneezy.org/clarinet/BBoard/index.html

Be sure you type in the URL as shown with the proper upper and lower case letters.

I would take it to a music store and have them suggest an appropriate restoration expert, who will restore it to bring up the value without actually changing it to the point of bringing the value down. old clarinets can have an incredible tone quality. If you are experienced and know how to take extreme care of the instrument, you could play it occasionally for performances and demonstrations. The tone is beautiful, but I would ask a restoration expert as well as an antique appraisal person before doing anything at all to it.

I think you should look on the internet for information. If you cannot find out anything go look in librarys. Go to a music store and let them estimate the age of you clarinet. Then you will most likely be able to find out.
