 Solid Silver Flute Headjoint
Author: sax2flute

I currently play a silver-plated Gemeinhardt 3B flute. I am a serious beginning flutist just starting to double on the flute, currently performing in a band on sax. What would I gain by getting a DiMedici solid silver flute headjoint, the only affordable one for me. Would that be money well-spent or a waste?

I have not played a DiMedici, but I would guess that you would gain very little. You need to try one or several to see how much, if any, it would improve your tone and responsiveness. You also need to verify that it would fit your flute.

The headjoint is very, very important, and can make a big difference in tone and responsiveness. I spent several years searching for a good headjoint. I looked at many professional silver headjoints running in the $900 to $1,200 price range. I found some by the same maker, same style, that were okay and others that I didn't care for. These were made by Brannen-Cooper, Powell, and Landell which make some really great flutes and headjoints.

Make sure you try before buying, and get it on approval for several days. You might be able to pick a good professional headjoint up on the used market, but make sure you can try it and return it if you don't like it.
