I have trouble getting the high F# above the staff, which is trouble because I play a lot of things in Em and G. Is there a trick to the embrochure? Most of the time I get either air or the B (?) above the F#. On the rare occasion that I do get an F# It sounds out of tune and airy. Is it supposed to be like that? Please help!!

I don't think it's your embouchure. I assume you are using the correct fingering. I strongly suspect that your flute needs a minor adjustment or a new pad(s).

It may be a slight problem with some adjustment on your flute. But you might be able to get it out better with an alternative fingering. When I played bass flute for flute choir, the key used most commonly for f# (right hand ring finger) did not seal correctly. It was a really old bass flute in desparate need of repairs. So I used an alternative fingering, using my right hand middle finger in replacement of my ring finger. This site is great for alternative fingerings.
