I recently learned of the basic and alternate fingering for Bb, B, and C on Sax. (I usually play flute). In a concert Ab key and beyond, where Bb, C is played, I'm all mixed up now. Which ones to use when? Everyone seemes to tell me something different. The Bb using the right index makes more sence to me from flute playing. But which C fingering then works best.

There are three fingerings for Bb on sax. The first finger bis key Bb is used in situations where you are playing Bb all of the time. The side key Bb is the one that should be used most often. The one and one Bb is only used occassionally in special situations.
The middle finger fingering for C is the primary fingering. Side key C is used when going from B or bis Bb to C and immediately back down or when you are playing chromatically B, C, C# or going back down chromatically.

I've been playing sax for about a year now, so I'm obviously not the most experienced player, but I know a thing or two (hey, I'm playing at a B600 level, that counts for something right?). The side C key I agree with, using for chromatic purposes, and obvioulsy also for trills, but it should also be used if you're slurring from B to C, if only to produce a smoother sound. As for Bb, I like to use the right index too, but I only do so when it's a comfortable piece. If I'm going from A to Bb or from Bb to A I will use the side Bb key, but sometimes even the 1 and 1 key (like for example in a james bond piece where I had to play A, Bb, B, Bb, all slurred).

Lets not forget the 1- 2 fingering when you are rapidly going from Bb to F#.

I've played Alto for 6 years now. The side fingering key is supposed to also be more in tune. It is very hard to learn though since most of the time you learn the 1 and 1 fingering when you first start out.
