 Rattling oboe?
Author: April
Date:   2001-03-11 18:12

I got an oboe in the summer and for the life of me can't figure out why the lower notes rattle! It stopped for a while when I got a better reed but it's back again and worse then before. I'm lucky to get a clear sound on the low G! Even with a new reed the low C is an absoulute pain. And of corse my solo requires 20 million! Help please! April

Try playing long tones for awhile. That should help on the sound. If that doesn't work then you need to take your oboe to a shop and have it looked at. Preferable to someone who plays the oboe.

Kathryn is right. You should do that. Umm.... you probably should do long tones, and possibly your embochure isn't correct for the lower notes. If that doesn't work, then most likely your oboe is messed up, and should be taken to an oboe specialist.
