I'm playing a really old baritone saxophone. I just switched from clairinet to it about 2 weeks ago. I have all of the fingerings it's just i don't know whether to place it to the side of my legs or in the middle... my band director and jazz director are giving me conflicting advice. If you have any experience can you please tell me what worked for you. Also sometimes myoctaves change when i first play a note. Thank you for your help.

I STARTED BERI SAX ABOUT TWO WEEKS TOO AND WE ARE PROBLABLY ON THE SAME SIDE! yOU SHOUL PUT IT ON YOUR RIGHT SIDE AND WHEN YOU PLAY YOU GOT GOT GOT GOT TO LOSEN UP. I PLAYED CLARINET TWO BEFORE THE SWICH. IF YOU KNOW HOW TO MAKE A SQUEAK ON CLARINET YOU SHOULD PLAY LIKE THAT ON THE BARI SAX GOOD LUCK.

Definitely to the side, agreed. You say the horn's really old, you might want to get it tuned up by a good repair shop if you haven't already. Leaks can make your notes jump octaves (but of course so can not being used to a big instrument!)

well, It depends entirely on what kind of band your playing in. if your in a jazz band, you should keep it to the side, if your in a formal, or marching band, you should keep it in the middle. if you are playing while standing up, keep it in the middle. best of luck,
billy
