Are there any particular visual features that is obvious different between a C and Bb clarinet?
Shorter barrel? low toneholes closer to the bell? or anything like that?

The overall length is shorter and all the distances are reduced. However, it won't be obvious unless you lay the two instruments side by side.

All I have to go by are pics, and only of that particular clarinet. I'll just have to take a good, long, hard look at the pics.

You will not be able to tell from the pictures. Ask the owner to measure and send you the overall length of the instrument from end of bell to tip of mouthpiece. Then measure a Bb the same way. If they are close to the same, then it is a Bb. A C should be an inch or two shorter than the Bb.
You see, everything on the instrument is in proportion to the overall length needed for the key. Thus you cannot tell from a picture UNLESS they key is stamped right on it as some are.
