AAAh!! LOW,low B-flat on Alto Sax
Author: ALLYCAT

I have just been introduced to a terrible stone in my playing, the awful oh-so-threatening 1st? octave B-flat. Just what I need as a freshman in high school, something else to practice on. Could anyone offer any tips or hints.
I may have leaks but everytime I take Duke Cannon (my sax) to the shop and mention it, it's never any better when I pick it up.

Ok one thing is to keep a firm embechoure but it needs to be looser than the other notes(obviously cause the lower the note the looser your embechoure). and when you take it to the shop ,ask them to run a leak light down it just cause you are curious. that will show you that there are either leaks or not if there is light comming from the pads still when the pads are pressed down. If they don't have a leak light, then you need to find a different repairman lol.

o.k. i had the same problem that you had. first try to take out less mouth piece when playing low notes. second, toung the note hard and support it with full air, then back off a little to soften the tone. i hope this helps you. just keep praticing in the low register of the horn and pretty soon you'll get the hang of it. e-mail me back, i'm a junior at peninsula high school.
