well, what might help you is doing this: Going fast, to slow, fast to slow, and hold notes for a while (remembering not to hold them to long!)then fumble in some more notes that are really fast.
This might help you, or maybe not. But its something you might want to have a look at.....
Hope I helped - Novice Jazz Lover

jazz improv is a very difficult thing to teach, since there are so many different ways to do it. depending on the rythme section, that sets your speed. whichever scales you have to work with, theres your notes. and if there is backround shots, work with those. backround shots are when other instruments play short or sometimes long notes to help the soloist or to complete a chord, etc. if at all possible, listen to other soloist, that can give you ideas for your solos. don't repeat that solo, or it won't be new and interesting. listen to jazz on the radio or internet to get a feel of how different type of jazz sounds. funk, latin, swing, rock, a ballad, are to name a few types. jazz is supposed to be fun, so don't sweat it if you make a mistake, just keep going. in jazz it's better to make a mistake then not to play at all. hope this helps.

this is prolly a little late for ur audition, but it may help anyway.
Jon, i disagree with you. some of the new stuff is awesom. Get a song called Tank by Seatbelts to see what i'm talking about. anyway, the first trick to doing a great solo is BE CONFIDENT!
intend everything: if u hit a bad note, don't think 'crud!' try and work it into your solo so it doesn't sound wrong. If u can do that, people will just go 'Woah!'
Try not to be predictable: do something, then later on do it again, but change it a little. when people expect to hear one thing, but hear another it keeps them interested. The bad note thing helps here too, cos people won't expect to hear it.
Steal stuff that you've heard: If u've heard a wicked solo, and there are things in it you could do, try and incorporate those into ur own solos. Its good fun to do this with another great soloist.
Finally, have fun and enjoy yourself: If you are bored, it will come out in your solo.
hope this helps. also, remember there are no wrong notes only bad choices.
