I need some help here..... I went on dominicsmusic.com and saw a few Monique tenor saxophones for only $575.00. I am on a low budget, and I need a tenor fast. I need to know if this brand is a reliable one. Please respond soon.

Thanks,
lisa

generally you should stay to instruments in your local area. that way you can see the quality of the instrument you are looking to purchase in front of you, and you can play test it to see if it gives you a good sound, no broken/sticky keys, and there is nothing wrong with it. with instruments off the web, you can be getting anything. theres people that will use words that make this instrument sound better then it is. this is why its a really good idea to play test, or even get high quality pictures to look it over. if they are not willing to give pictures, then it's probably a waste of your time. hope this helps.

Thanks for the response. I'll try to get some good pictures from the site. If I can't, I'll definitely try something local.

I've been hearing a lot of "bad" things about Monique sax's.
I was thinking about purchasing one, but after all the
negative responses, I think i'll pass. I was also thinking
about the Cannonball soprano. Does anyone have any feedback
on the Cannonball?

If you are on a low budget and need a saxophone, I can tell you that Dominic's is a well established music business and very good to do business with. A few years ago I needed a tenor sax for my daughter who was just entering high school. I spoke with the people at Dominics and they explained the various types of sax and the prices, sent pictures etc. I had seen the Monique on their web site, but opted for a student model of a well known brand. He had just one and prior to shipping while the instument was being tested, it was damaged. I was called because they were concerned about meeting the date for band camp. They shipped me a professional model Monique with the promise of getting the student model I wanted. He said if the Monique did not meet all the requirements and expectations of the band director, I could send it back. It is a beautiful instrument and the band director played it (sax is his instument of choice)he said the tone was wonderful. He was so impressed with the Monique that when the other instument became available he told my daughter not to trade, that she would never get an instrument like that at such a reasonable price. Needless to say she still has her Monique and everyone wonders how we could afford such an expensive instrument. She has 6 years of marching band under her belt now and the only thing that has been replaced is a tiny screw that holds one of the key guards in place. She loves this instrument and it still looks new. Hope this helps

I too bought a Monique Sax from Dominic's via the web. My son uses it for high school band too. He likes it alot and we haven't had any problems other than the time he dropped it and bent the octave key mechanism. I contacted Dominic's to to get a replacement mechanism and they wouldn't sell me just the part to fix it. They want me to send the sax back to them to fix it. I can't do that as my son is playing it in the band. A local repair shop bent it out so it's playable but adviced me to get a replacement part and they would replace it. If Dominic's doesn't support the instruments they sell, I wouldn't recommend buying from them. Maybe you live down the road from his shop but his internet buyers are out of luck.

I bought a Monique from Dominic's shop on Ebay. The instrument is beautiful, and it works wonderfully for the money. My only complaint is that mine came with a sticky low C# pad that I still haven't fixed, but it should be easy to do when I get around to it. It's quite possibly the fastest sax I've ever played, and it wouldn't be hard to find a comparable sax for 5x the price. Even the list price is low for such a nice sax, and they sell at 1/3 of that. The tone is beautiful, and it's easy to go from bright to dark on demand with a metal Selmer mouthpiece and a Java reed. Absolutely the best sax for everything that I've played, especially for the money.
