Help with Syrinx/More volume with low register
Author: Lindy

Would someone please offer me some suggestions on getting more dynamic range, especially more volume, from the low register of my flute? Especially below D1. (I have a B-foot.)

The piece I'm asking this for is Syrinx, so any tricks or hints concerning that piece would be great, since I haven't the luxury of a teacher.

Thanks!!
Lindy

Getting a good hold of a low note comes with a lot of practice. But here is a good tip. Keep your chin up and at the same time drop your jaw back (as if trying to pronounce the syllable eeee or think of blowing the air stream down to your shoes) this helps get those low notes to come out big and clearly. Try it! Keep up the good work!

Also, angle your air almost STRAIGHT down into the embouchure hole when playing low notes. Do not look down though, this may make them out of tune, but do THINK down. ;)

Flute often!
