 flute to cor anglais/english horn
Author: jen

I've played the flute for over 10 years, and a few years ago heard a cor anglais (english horn) for the first time. Ever since I've really wanted to learn to play one.
I know there can be problems with switching from flute to oboe - does this also apply to switching to cor anglais?
Is it reasonable to learn cor anglais without learning the oboe first?

Thanks for any advice.

The oboe and the cor anglais (English horn) have exactly the same fingering, so anything that applies to fingering on the oboe will also apply to the cor anglais. I don't know whether the embouchure is any easier or harder than the oboe.

I also had the same problem. When i played flute and switched to the oboe I had no problem with my embouchure. I believe there is no problem with switching from flute to english horn. But remember if you play the english horn there are lots of instruments you cannot play because they will hurt your embouchure
