What instrument are you talking about? For flute, double tonguing is a technique which can increase your tonguing speed, but if you play a reed instrument, it is normally recommended that you just use single tonguing and practise a lot.

Well, in jazz, you actually only tongue every other note regularly...when playing eight notes, you tongue the upbeats. For the eighth note down beats, just kind of say 'doo'.

the syllable TA KA can be used for double tounging. although it is a difficult technique to develope. getting your tounging faster is easier to develope then double tounging on single reed instruments. hope this helps.

practice tonguing slowly, on one pitch, at a speed where each note is even. Graudually increase your speed (make sure you're using a metronome while doing this) a few clicks at a time until you can feel yourself just about to lose control, and then bring the speed back down out of the danger zone. This is a very easy technique to use, and is very effective at building up the strength and coordination of your tongue.

The easiest way for me to get faster is by using a metronome. First I start the passage slow, then when I feel comfrotable going at the slow speed, I gradually start to go faster and so on. Hope this helped you out!

Musically yours,

My only advice is 2 practice the piece over and over again.
