Is there really a such thing as a flavored reed? I've heard of them but have never seen them.If there is a such thing, are they as durable as the standard reeds?

well, i'm not sure about reeds that are flavoured, but there is a product called tastee reed. all you do is put a regular reed into a bottle and it's changed the flavour. or so i hear. i've never tried it, so thats all i can say on the product. hope this helps.

There is a flavored reed on the market but it is absolute junk. The cane is very poor in quality and quite rough. They respond poorly.
When my younger daughter started clarinet, I would buy little "rewards" for diligent practice. One time she wanted the "Flavoreeds" that she saw in the store. So I bought them. She tried them and told me that while they tasted good, they played awfully and she didn't ever want me to buy anymore. At the time she had only been playing 6 months or so but even she was able to tell the difference as they were really atrocious.

I've seen a lot of them, all for clarinet. I don't play clarinet, but I've been told that they are junk and that the dye from the reeds gets all over the player's mouth.

My friend who plays clarinet used one. It wasn't bad she said, and it didn't get all over the place. I'm guessing she bought it at a local store, but I have seen them in the woodwind brasswind catalogue for sax and clarinet.I'm not sure if they still carry them though. www.wwbw.com

I'm new to this forum & just saw the post on buying Flavoreeds. Try www.flavoreeds.com. It's not the site where I first saw them - andlaughed at the descriptions: Pina colada flavor makes you think you are on a tropical island - but you can purchase them there. Personally I wouldn't touch them, but using a red or green reed would be quite a joke.
