Calling all clarinet people....... How long did it take you to get good w/ the clarinet. By good i mean knowing how to play all major scales very well knowing what keys u don't really use and can maybe play a hard song like "flight of the bunble bee" really fast.

well, it really matters how much you practice. I learned all that stuff for the flute in a couple of months, but with the clarinet I am still learning after all these years. Its because I practice harder on the flute so I learned them faster. Its up to you on how fast you want to learn it! Good luck!

Typically it takes several years for the normal person. If you practice say 1/2 hour per day every day or nearly every day, you could be there in anywhere from 2 to 4 years.

i've never played flight of the bumble bee, but i'd say i'm about there. and so it took me, 2 1/2 years of productive practise, other years of not practising at all. to become good should not take less then 2 years. you need experience behind you to reinforce what you can already do. don't try and rush things or you can end up missing out on basic techniques that can help you in the future. music is an art, not a science. a science can be learned quickly, while art is left to develop over time. hope this helps.

hmmm, i don't know waht the 'flight of the bunble bee' is...
though, i know every major scales well...

I've been playing for ten years...if you want to hear an amazing version of flight of the bumblebee...listen to Bob Springs. He tongues every note, why? Because he can!!
I'm at music college...still have so much to learn!
Major scales...try majors in 3rds, 4ths, 5ths and 6ths, then minors and whole tones in 3rds, 4ths, 5ths and 6ths. All up to top C, that's top C, not thumb C!
Then try some octave studies...and buy the Rosemary Lang and Jettel studies...then you're a clarinet player!!

It took me at least 4 yrs before i got to that standard. It took a lot of practice but learning your major and minor scales will help your playing of tunes such as 'the flight of the bumble bee'! So my advice is to at least do 20mins scale practice everyday!!!

hey, i going into ninth grade but it took me three years to be able to play very well....i practice very hard and change between the bass clarinet and clarinet i like it better when u have two insturmnets so u can always have one by ur side
