No. Softer reeds make a softer sound. Harder reeds are needed for a louder sound. But if you start using a harder reed, you probably won't be able to get any sound out at all. You have to match the hardness of the reed with much greater breath pressure and much stronger muscles in your mouth. You won't be able to do this at first and will need to practise a lot (perhaps a few months) after increasing the reed strength.

what i use for marching band is a very open oral cavity and embouchure. that gives volume, and takes a little bit to develope. you should as have your clarinet about 45 degress from you, more then in concert band. this is so the sound goes outward, and not to the ground. but make sure any way you make your clarinet louder, don't use that in concert or school band. a marching band usually has a sharper pitch for a brighter sound, whereas a concert is dead on 0 cents for the a single sound. so you'll have a tougher time blending with the sound, and you'll be too loud. hope this helps.

If youre going to hold your clarinet out at a greater angle, make sure the rest of the section does as well. Uniformity is very important in a marching band, everyone needs to have the same horn angle.
